How to read this map
The colour scale represents ten-metre wind speed and arrows show the flow. Gusts may be considerably stronger than the mean wind, particularly through gaps, around headlands and over mountain slopes.
- Beaufort is a descriptive force scale derived from wind speed, not a separate measurement.
- Sharp local changes around islands, coasts and mountains are easier to inspect at a closer zoom level.
- For ferries and small craft, consider waves, gusts and official port-authority advice together.
