River flood trend

Monitor modelled discharge for important Greek rivers and how it changes relative to the historical reference level.

GloFAS · approximately 5 km

Hydrological trend, not an alert

Current and forecast modelled discharge is compared with a historical monthly reference in the same grid cell. A rise suggests increasing hydrological activity, not flooding at a specific settlement.

Not an official warning: for immediate risk follow 112, Civil Protection, official forecasts and local authorities. Never approach a river channel or flooded crossing.

How to interpret this service

📈 Relative change

Comparison uses the model mean for the same month and grid cell. Trend is more useful than the absolute number.

🧩 5 km grid

The API selects the largest river in an approximately 5 km area and may match another branch near small rivers.

🏞 Regulation

Reservoirs, diversions and gates may not be correctly represented by the global model.

🌧 Local flooding

Flash or urban flooding may occur without appearing early in the discharge of a large river.

🟠 Colour levels

These are e‑meteo relative categories, not official GloFAS or Greek authority thresholds.

🚨 Actual event

Move away from rising water and never cross a flooded road or bridge.

Data sources and terms of use

Open‑Meteo Flood API

Daily discharge and ensemble statistics from GloFAS v4 at about 0.05° / 5 km.

Historical reference

Modelled 1991–2020 monthly mean in the same representative grid cell where available.

Limitations

No alert, evacuation instruction or official threshold is issued. Official authorities always take priority.
